Candle Composition
Rowbert candles are handcrafted by me, Kirsty, from my home studio in the spa town of Harrogate. Making them in small batches means I can keep tabs on the quality of every one. I take what goes into our candles seriously. It's more about what we don't include, as much as what we do.
Which wax?
I knew before creating Rowbert, that I wanted our candles to be as environmentally friendly as possible. I decided soy wax was the perfect fit. It's derived from the oil of soy beans, making it a form of vegetable wax. This means it's sustainable as it's plant-based, and more can always be grown. Learn more about different types of waxes in this blog post.

What are the benefits of soy wax?
-
Soy wax candles burn super clean, meaning it's less likely to irritate allergies.
-
Other candles made from paraffin or mineral wax, are a by-product of petroleum. This produces high levels of black carbon soot, that can collect on the inside of the container as well as surrounding furnishings in your home. There's next to none with a soy candle.
-
Soy wax is sustainable and bio-degradable.
-
It burns at a cooler temperature and so lasts longer - bonus!

What goes into a Rowbert candle?
All of our candles contain three simple ingredients:
-
Soy wax
-
Essential or fragrance oils
-
Natural cotton fibre wick
We don't add any dyes or artificial colourants, meaning all of our candles are white or cream in colour. Due to the natural colourings in essential oils, colour variations may occur in some candles.

All of this results in a clean, even burning, fragrant candle!
